Tastemakers Only Sponsorship Information
The hardest part about this strange industry we work in is establishing and maintaining contacts. The life blood of this business is often times the most difficult thing to manage. The hard part isn’t generally trying to figure out who to meet, but rather how to meet. That’s one of the reasons TJ’s DJ’s is putting together the Tastemakers Only event at the The Moon Wednesday, April 13, 2005. The conference opens the doors at 5pm. During the conference there is a performance showcase for developing and established artists as well as an after party at the conclusion of the event.
Because of our relationships built through TJ’s DJ’s history for the past decade, our last conferences have averaged over 800 key DJs, PDs, MDs, record stores, club owners, media outlets, artists, promoters, marketing companies, and label reps. They have traveled from throughout Florida and as far away as California, Wisconsin, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, the Carolinas, and Washington, DC. DJs, Program Directors, Assistant PDs, and Mixshow Directors from over 25 stations have been represented at each Tastemakers. The quarterly TJ’s DJ’s Tastemakers Only DJ Conference is the brainchild of TJ’s DJ’s owner, TJ Chapman. The idea is to have an event where industry Tastemakers such as Rico Wade (producer, Outkast, TLC), Jazze Phae (producer, Cash Money, Ludacris), Jeremy Miller (COO of the Source Magazine/owner, Down Magazine), Carol O. (BRE Magazine), Julia Beverly (owner, Ozone Magazine), Joie Manda (vice-president, Asylum Records), Erik Parker (music editor, Vibe Magazine), Shawn Holliday (GM, Hitco Publishing & A&R, Def Jam), Big Money Ced (WTMP-Tampa), and Danny Harris/Coco Brown (owner, Phat Cat Productions), David Banner (artist, “Like A Pimp”), Smurf (CEO, ColliPark Records), and Kashif (author/songwriter responsible for 70 million units sold) can speak, network, and teach other industry members who may not have the same level of experience. But, the Tastemakers Only is not limited to the music industry. Corporate sponsors such as Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Red Bull Energy Drink, EA Sports, Hpnotiq, and Heineken, eager to tap into the leaders of the urban market, have invested into the conference. Plus, media outlets such as Ozone Magazine (TJ’s DJ’s Tastemaker Award recipient), CBS affiliates, FOX affiliates, Folio Weekly (Jacksonville, FL), and A.C.E. Magazine are a few present to record the historic event and secure future stories.
The TJ’s DJ’s showcase has garnered a legacy of creating stars by allowing them to perform and capture the attention of the Tastemakers at the conference including Mike Watts (Swisha House; DJ, KKDA-Dallas & KBXX-Houston), Michael Clarke (retailer, M&M-Tyler, TX), and Kermit Henderson (retailer, East Cleveland Music Dist.-Cleveland, OH). Artists such as David Banner, Trillville, BloodRaw, Roy Jones & Mr. Magic, Jacki-O, Da Backwudz and others have taken the Tastemaker stage before they gained national attention.
The conference has packages ranging from goodie bag placements to multi-media logo reels. But, one of the more popular packages available is the official Tastemakers Only Xclusives CD featuring your contact information inside the insert. The CD will be played continuously during the conference. In addition, we will include the CD in the Tastemakers Only goodie bag given to all Tastemakers in attendance. It will also be in the next mailing to our CD DJs and to our media list as well. The DJs in our pool represent commercial and pirate radio stations, magazines, strip clubs, and much more. This includes members of TJ’s DJ’s that write for music magazines like The Source, Vibe, XXL, Ozone, Murder Dog, Black Gold, and numerous other publications. But, please remember that a CD can only hold a limited amount of songs, so it is available on a first come, first served basis (at the discretion of the pool staff).
Up and coming superstars have had their songs spread by the CD such as Trick Daddy, Jacki-O, T.I., Ee-De, Wayne Wonder, CNN, BloodRaw, Suave Smooth, Inner Circle, White Dawg, Dirty, Tampa Tony, Camoflauge, Triple J, Archie Eversole, Grandaddy Souf, and more all utilized the Tastemakers Only Xclusives CD to help break into the Southeast.
